Beers to Look For

It is easy to find excellent examples of some of the beer styles mentioned in these articles: notably American pale ales, India pale ales, or amber lagers and ales. Other styles are not as well known. For every style mentioned, here are some domestic and imported examples to look for. Obviously, the list is not exhaustive, but it should help readers in any part of the country to experiment with these delicious pairings and recipes.

Ale styles

Amber/Red Ale: North Coast Red Seal Ale, Anderson Valley Boont Amber

Lager styles

Pilsner: Pilsner Urquell. In addition, The most popular domestic beers—Budweiser, Miller, Coors and Pabst—as well as imports including Labatt, Heineken and Tsing Tao, are all descendants of the pilsner style.

Helles: Spaten Lager, Paulaner Premium Lager

Amber/Red Lagers: Killian’s Irish Red, Michael Shea’s Irish Amber

Bock: Samuel Adams Winter Lager, Shiner Bock, Michelob Amber Bock
