There are oysters, and then there are the legendary Blue Points, Crassostrea virginica, with so much more flavor you’d hardly recognize them as the same species. The last few East Coast IPAs I tasted were good—Blue Point is exceptional. We enjoyed it with our local Olympias, Ostrea lurida, but preferred the intense floral, citrus and conifer tones wrapped around a solid malt structure, with foods of more substance like a waygu steak, stuffed with lobster meat, on a sauce of mushrooms, shallots, celery, and peppers slowly sautéed in butter.

Pours swell with a fullness to a glug glug glug. Listen to your beer. Heady on top of a golden glow. Full body, malty with sweet notes. Hop flavors swirl counterclockwise hurricane, but there’s no damage, like the satishying and welcome calm of the eye of a cyclonic IPA. Well balanced and intrepid. East coast West Coast? Who can tell the difference? Great full flavored mouthfeel. Great with anchovy peppered pizza? Grilled bluefish. Wonderful punctuation at the end of the experience hops. Thank you, Blue Point.
