A deep copper-colored beer with lively foam and a rich Dundee cake aroma packed with dark roasted grain and raisin fruit. Dark malts and ripe fruit dominate the mouth, with a gentle underpinning of hops. The finish is long with some pleasing hop bitterness balancing the richness of malt and fruit. A soft, companionable beer, ideal for a Burns Night supper.

Start by enjoying the smooth talking head, followed by the wonderful aromatic impact of fine malt with hints of smoke attached, and lo, there it is: genuine smoked peat malt of the whisky variety. Worth a trip to Wisconsin (cheaper than Scotland). Soft and caramelly, this beer folds itself onto your palate, holding the final promise right to the end. The aftertaste is a grand finale to the experience.

I love a good “wee heavy” like this one. The layers of caramel, toffee, and molasses soothe my soul while satisfying the sweet tooth in me. The most interesting versions of the style offer something to accompany and balance the sweetness. This one has three: lovely peat smoke, warming alcohol, and subtle background hop bitterness. The flavors are nicely balanced too. What can I say? This beer lifts my kilt!
