Inspired by the brothers’ time living in France, this bière de garde, deep amber in color, is a food-friendly ale. This beer has a toasty and sweet caramel start and finishes with just enough hops to clean off the palate. Glassware: Pint

    Don’t let the “French style” label confuse you. Au contraire: It’s a beer, not a wine. Golden with amber highlights. Pours slightly turbid, a good sign indicating low or no final filtration. Fresh, malty nose is subtle but inviting. Hops, too, are subtle, but do a good job of balancing the sweet roasted flavor. Clean and easy to drink. The mouthfeel is round and delicious. When it is served with a croque-monsieur, french fries and a walnut salad, you’ll think that you returned to the old country, and I don’t mean Illinois!

    The amber light glowing through glassware is not to be misconstrued as cautionary. The rich caramel toasty malt aroma with a very, very low Belgian fruity profile is an open-door invite to carry on with tipping up a mouthful of one of the most delicious, well-balanced brews I’ve had in some time.  You’re invited to the successful marriage of well-meaning hop character paired with subversively seductive malt. A wow glow of warming alcohol relaxes and soothes. Medium light body is clean and refreshes. If this is a French-style country ale, thank god I’m a country boy—for now.
