The Southern Tier Brewing Company has been producing Harvest Ale as its autumn seasonal release since 2003. Harvest Ale is our celebration of the changing weather and the sowing of hops and barley that will be used in our upcoming brews. We usher in the fall with a classic English style Extra Special Bitter of the highest order… in fact, we throw fresh English hops into every brewing vessel, then dry hop after fermentation to impart a zesty kick.

Straw color with a lively head of foam and a big floral hop nose with oatmeal biscuits and tart orange fruit. The citrus fruit builds in the mouth, with bitter hops and juicy malt. The long, quenching finish offers more ripe orange fruit, a powerful, resinous hop bitterness and succulent grain. A fine, refreshing beer.

The beer looks nice—a bright honey-colored liquid under a thin, lacy cap of foam. The aroma is alluringly hoppy, with vibrant lime and gooseberry notes. The bitterness is relatively gentle but very precise, a good foil for the flinty dry malt center. The beer rides that mineral quality out to a clean finish. This is a very tasty pale ale with an elegant, drinkable structure. Make yourself a shrimp quesadilla and don’t stint on the chilies.
