Emphasizing that complexity of character can arise from simple elements, this imperial IPA is made with three malts—German dark, Munich, and malted rye—and a single hop, Summit.

    Catchy name in a state where a brewer is running for governor. Deep-gold Florentine with quickly dissipating head. Hop aroma is powerful, slightly medicinal and resinous. A fruity front of the palate finishes fiery from the obvious high alcohol content. It gets my vote much more with food than as a stand-alone beer. We elected to serve it with fried smelt with a chipotle dipping sauce—a winner!

    Adroitly pale for an imperial brew. Poetic hop aroma coupled with a foundation of clear and clairvoyant malt conspire to WOW. I’m putting on my duck slippers and wanting to kick back with this erudite brew. It is curiously yellow and nonchalantly drinkable. Beer drinkers beware. Profound and complex hop character engages philosophic and woozy reminders of the life’s joys. Every once in a while I’ll make mine Gubna. Duck slippers included.
