Deep fruity red color topped with a lace of foam with a raspberry aroma that drifts across the table and invites. Refreshing fruit balance with a flavor more reminiscent of raspberry juice than beer, but nonetheless the warmth of an 8% ABV contributes dramatically to its beer pedigree. Smooth aftertaste balances the overall impression without lingering. This beer will make beer drinkers out of many who would claim that they “don’t like beer.” Food possibilities are endless. A raspberry-flavored beer that’s on my list of money-worthy brews to enjoy and introduce to friends.
“Belgian ale with cherries and cherry juice added,” declares the label. One glance at the bright ruby color in the glass, with its loose pink foam, and one sniff of the jammy aroma, with its marzipan notes, tells you much the same thing. This is a boldly fruity drink, packed with tart, fleshy dark cherries, with a sugary note on the palate and an acetic bite at the back of the throat. The fruit is sumptuous and powers on into the sweet, but drying, finish. It’s too full-on for volume drinking but with a chocolate pudding it could be a revelation.
