Posted November 8, 2010 by Greg Barbera

The Lost Abbey‘s Red Poppy Ale won gold at the Eighth Annual Festival of Wood and Barrel Aged Beer. The beer, a Flanders style red ale, is produced with sour cherries and aged in French oak barrels for a year. Held in November, the Festival is the oldest and largest festival in the world to feature only beers aged in or on wood. For more details, go here.

The first time I tried Red Poppy I could tell that it could be an awesome beer, but the bottle I had was unfortunately flat. It had everything to be a world class brew but the lack of carbonation totally killed it for me. Congrats on the Gold medal though.
