Poetic name. Pours deepest brown, almost opaque until held to the light when reddish highlights appear, like rare jewels. Head of tiny bubbles dissipates quickly. Pleasant java nose has slight hint of vegetative hops. Nice balance of roasted malt and hops on the palate—almost like a “light” black IPA. Marries well with rich comfort foods like homemade pasta carbonara with butter, cream, peas and smoked bacon, followed by a chocolate crème brûlée doused with crème de cacao.

This is a no-see-through, wealthy-rich looking-in-the-glass dark porter. A velvety rich toasted malt aroma and flavor with a balanced foundation of roast malt character to boot. Smooth hop-malt/bitter-sweet balance in flavor. Impact of aftertaste is evident but not everlasting, forcing you to continue working on this glass of truly well-made porter. Worthy of being a classic.
