Original Sin Cider

Reviewers: John Hansell

Original Sin
New York, NY

Available: DC, GA, IL, IN, KS, KY, MA, MD, MI, NC, NJ, NV, OH, PA, SC, VA, and WI.

Original Sin is a small craft cider company, producing traditional cider that contains no artificial flavors or colors.

ABV: 6
ABW: 4.8
Color: yellow/gold
Bitterness: n/a
Original gravity: n/a

Very pale in color (like an un-oaked chardonnay). Nicely carbonated, with a good dose of apple crispness and buttery apple pulp. There's enough tartness to stand up to the sweeter notes (this isn't one of those cloying, overly sweet ciders), but my preference would still be for a little less sweetness. Clean finish. (Try it on the rocks like I did. It tones down the sweetness and makes for a very refreshing drink.)
- John Hansell
Welcome to "Beer Cider Talk." I do enjoy a glass of good cider now and then, but unlike most North Americans, I tend to like mine dry, drier and driest, which precludes most domestic and virtually all the readily available imported hard ciders. Still, even for my tastes, this pale-hued, Vermont-grown cider has its appeal, with a yeasty, off-dry aroma and tangy apple flesh flavor zinged up by hints of citrus zest and very faint vanilla. Just the thing with a plate of sausage, beans and chips.

Stephen Beaumont boarded his first plane at the age of 15 and hasn't looked back since, obsessing about travel to the point that he gets nervous if he doesn't have a ticket or two stacked on the corner of his desk. When he’s not running around in search of new taste experiences, he makes his home in Toronto, where a new cultural experience is only as far away as the next neighborhood.
