Rye Pale Ale

November 22, 2014
Reviewers: Charles Finkel

Rye Pale AleRye Pale Ale

Mavericks Brewing

Half Moon Bay, CA

Rye Pale Ale is one of three beers from Mavericks, each of which are 3.75%. It is brewed with Two-Row, Rye, Munich, Crystal and Amber malts and hopped with Chinook, Cascade, Summit and Northern Brewer hops.

ABV: 3.75

ABW: 2.89

COLOR: 10.5

BITTERNESS: 53

ORIGINAL GRAVITY: 1040

AVAILABLE: CA

Rye was once considered a weed, a necessary evil in the cultivation of barley. Rye bread, more famous than rye beer, is crafted with more wheat than rye; same with the beer. This beer is light golden, with a bright white head. Nicely hopped, it is sprightly and acidic. Recommended with a corned beef sandwich, on, what else, rye!
- Charles Finkel
Hazy with plenty of foaming grin. Effervescence is a bit over the top, but once settled the aroma of bananas and malt arise. Refreshing light palate with a dryness that settles into a rhythm. Hop bitterness is not aggressive, but its evidence is quite pleasing. A complex ale with a lot going on from the malt, hop and fermentation world. A curl of wildness creates an interesting setting for all that’s going on.
