Jubelale
November 15, 2013Bend, OR
Style: Winter Ale
ABV: 6.7%
Review: Jubelale has a burnt red color off the pour with a full head resembling coffee or mocha and a nice contrast in the glass. The nose is very sweet, fruity, and the dried fruit notes that cover many beers come out very strong. Apple, fig, raisins, dates, alcohol and a large malt presence on the nose—much bigger than one would expect from the color. Doesn’t taste like the deep fruit expected after the nose. Malt sweetness on the front, but a large hop finish from solid bittering hops that are not present on the nose. Great contrast—even a peppery finish. Jubelale would go very well with a rich farmhouse cheese or it would be a nice contrast to a salty, creamy cheese. A good winter butternut squash soup or pork tenderloin and chutney would also make perfect matches.
