This beer was originally created exclusively for export to Japan, where wild blueberries are popular for their health benefits. Since 2001, it has been available in the United States.

Deep chestnut color with hints of purple. The beautiful head and aromatics show blueberry as well. The blueberry lingers diligently but pleasantly on the palate. This is quite pleasing as a drink: soft and enticing, but very enjoyable too. Blueberries are surprisingly delicious in beer.

The essence of blueberries, fleeting even in the fruit itself, is notoriously difficult to capture in beer. This hazy amber beer smells just like the blue Italian ices I ate as a kid—brightly fruity with a vague hint of blueberries. The beer is relatively light and dry on the palate, showing a little malt flavor before the fruit flavorings shove it aside. The malt makes a last stand in the finish. If you want a pint that tastes like a lollipop, step right up. Food matches? I wouldn’t dare.

Perfumy, fruity aroma. Attractive. Copper-red color. Starts with a suggestion of bubblegum. Sweetish. Light, but smooth. Restrained fruit, with some iron-ish flavors. Gently refreshing. Like all fruit beers made with ale yeasts, it lacks the complexity that is offered by a wheat beer strain or a lambic fermentation.
