Blazing World

November 22, 2014
Reviewers: Lisa Morrison

BlazingWorld-PrintBlazing World

Modern Times Beer

San Diego

Blazing World is brewed with two-row pale, Munich and Midnight Wheat malts and hopped with Nelson, Mosaic and Simcoe hops.

ABV: 6.8

ABW: 5.4

COLOR: 9

Bitterness: 65

Original Gravity: 1067

AVAILABLE: CA

It pours like an amber, with a hazy amber color and a chunky ecru head that lingers long and leaves nice lacing on the side of the glass. It smells like an amber, with sweet, bready malt along with a hint of hops. At first, it even tastes like an amber, featuring notes of caramel and toffee. But then the hops come screaming at you: citrus, tropical fruit and a certain “kind” herbal note. For those who want the usual less-bitter amber ale, this might not be the one to seek. But adventurous drinkers will appreciate this decidedly hoppy version.
- Lisa Morrison
This is a beer that cheekily wears its heart on its can, alongside a set of laboratory specification numbers. The carbonation is low, and the liquid barely rouses a head. The nose delivers what the name promised—dank hops with notes of tropical fruit, garlic, chives and California’s favorite weed. The hop attack is precise and knife-like, pulling along a wake of toasty malt behind it. This beer works. It knows what it wants and it does that thing really well. Just the thing you’ll need to slice through that chili relleno.
