Solid state stout! A wonderful beer, ever so pleasing, demanding only that we have another sip. The beer has a smooth chocolatey underlay; dark and inviting, yet enticingly mellow. It's pleasing roast character is modestly subdued and not at all aggressive, as is the case in some stouts. If you don't like stout, this beer could change your whole way of looking at that style. A real treasure.
- Fred Eckhardt
The beer poured deep reddish-brown, disappearing into black as the glass filled. The thick, tan head is fairly sturdy. The aroma shows light chocolate and coffee with a hint of fruit. On the palate, the beer is rather sweet, but balanced, with clean, moderate hopping holding the sugar in check and drying out the finish. There is very little roast flavor on the palate and, given the sweetness, one might consider this a Black Country porter or perhaps even a cousin to old English milk stouts. Well- brewed, but a better companion to dessert than to oysters.
- Garrett Oliver
Black. Creamy aroma. Smooth. Medium bodied but textured and mouth-filling. Creamy flavors. Nutty. Chocolatey. The blackcurrant is very restrained; barely perceptible at first. As the beer warms, the fruit emerges slightly, syrupy at first, then with a good balancing acidity. Very pleasant. Easily drinkable. With Death by Chocolate or Cherry Jubilee.
- Michael Jackson
