Baseball and Ballantine. What great memories that ad line brings back for me. It was an omnipresent ad slogan on radio, TV and in print as I grew up in the New York City area. I imagine that people from every part of the country with a nearby Major League ball team must have similar memories of their team’s beer sponsor. So let’s just call it Baseball and Beer. They go together like, well, baseball and beer.
Here’s a list, as complete as possible, of every draft, bottled and canned beer sold in every Major League ballpark for the 2000 season. As you might guess, every single park offers beers from the Big Three. And you can argue that these light, clean, cold beers never taste better than they do at a game.
But if you need evidence that the beer revolution is here to stay, check out the craft beers and imports that have become standards at local parks. Before you put your money down for a cold one, you might want to know whether it’s worth exploring a few more concession stands before you make your choice.
And while we’re not suggesting that beer variety could induce you to abandon the team you’ve supported since childhood and switch to a more beer-savvy park…well, maybe that is what we’re suggesting!
