The name stems from the 2008 Whetstone Bella Vigna Pinot Noir barrels that housed this sweet Belgian-style Tripel for nine months. The beer pours a gorgeous, almost translucent gold with the “densest head that I’ve ever seen,” comments one staff member. “I could eat it with a spoon.”
The beer has a light, sugar candy flavor—cane sugar and not beet sugar. With its candy-like taste and crisp carbonation, the Tripel reminds one staff member of Pop Rocks. It is “exceedingly drinkable,” even with the strong wine finish gleaned from the French Oak barrels.
The Westbrook Bella Vigna Tripel is available in 22-oz bottles in South Carolina.
