Deschutes Brewing Red Chair NWPA

By Daniel Bradford Published May 2011, Volume 32, Number 2

One of my all time favorite breweries – Deschutes – consistently makes beers with a very subtle house profile. I’ve discussed this with their brewer Larry Sidor. This unique house characteristic is way beyond just the yeast, and quite frankly, is very compelling. There is simply a richness, which Red Chair NWPA expresses. It pours golden copper with a thick, white head that lingers through the whole tasting experience. The aroma is heady with citrusy hops that entice the senses. The flavor swings from slightly toasted biscuit to a bright, Cascade-like grapefruity finish… that lingers refreshingly forever. Red Chair is way beyond a typical American pale ale, with its medium body and rich texture balanced, it just doesn’t ever quit delivering a lovely beer experience.
