2007 Anchor Christmas Ale

By Daniel Bradford Published November 2009, Volume 30, Number 5

What are the chances someone would show up for a party with a magnum of 2007 Anchor Christmas Ale? What are the chances two people would show up with magnums of 2007 Anchor Christmas Ale? It happened last night. Eight of us sampled from two different bottles both of which were stored in kitchen closets. The first had a decidedly sour taste, suggesting something had gone awry in the past couple of years. The second held forth with more traditional holiday flavor – hints of dried fruit at the beginning and some dried spices in the finish; not too bright with more of a mulled spicy sensibility. Not to be outdone, I had to pull out something from my stash, in this case a 2002, which tasted remarkably similar to the second 2007 bottle, albeit with a bit more woody, musty flavor to it.
