Thin foam dissipates quickly. Sweet nose, some light fruit aromas, not much else. The flavors are mostly malt and bread, sweet and a bit heavy, and the finish trails off to a mineral-tinged thud. The body’s heavy for refreshment; the flavor’s not exciting. This might do better with the right food—a spicy pizza could do the trick—but on its own, it’s leaving me flat.
Almost an anomaly today: a craft beer with no pretensions to be anything other than a simple golden ale. Which is precisely what it is, rich gold in color and a little sweet and cereally on the nose, a bit like Wheaties with honey. The body is similarly on the malty-sweet side of dry and slightly grainy, with soft golden delicious apple notes, ending mildly bitter and a bit creamy. Pleasant enough and certainly approachable, but it doesn’t have me scrambling for more.
