Not bad,” it says on the label. With diminished expectations like that, how can you go wrong? Well…it’s not a real appealing aroma, a bit ashy, a hint of sweetness. But the beer itself goes down smooth and clean, with a malty zest that sticks around and makes itself at home. This could maybe use a touch more hop aroma and bitterness, just to crisp it up a bit, but like many Capital beers, it’s real friendly. Get some cheese curds and relax with it.

For reasons I can’t quite fathom, text on the side of the Supper Club label reads “Not Bad,” which may or may not be what the brewery thinks of the beer. Either way, it’s a fair description of this rich gold lager with the sweet, icing sugary nose and clean, slightly rounded, straight-forward flavor of faintly honey-ish malt and gently drying hop. Not complex, not particularly memorable, but also not bad, I’d say.
