In April 2009, founders and brothers Tom & John Knorr opened a boutique production brewery in Delaware, Evolution Craft Brewing Company. They were intrigued with the artistry in beer and decided that brewing their own beer would be a great new venture. OR “Lucky 7” is for the 7 malts used in the beer. Smoked malt is used to add depth to the malt character and first wort hopping adds a peppery complement to the malt sweetness.

Deepest chocolate color allows reddish highlights like the sparkle of rare jewels to shine through when held to the light. A nice dark head dissipates too quickly to fully appreciate its beauty. The nose is subtly of coffee and a vegetive aroma of hops, all with a cocoa background. Sprightly mouthfeel is lighter than expected, but clean and delicious with a round, fruity flavor like freshly baked bread. It was excellent with rare rack of lamb with a Malbec, fig, and eggplant reduction; chateau potatoes, and cooked seasonal organic carrots.

This ain’t no yard sale beer! Complex ale fruitiness with soothing comfort of roasted and smoky malt aromas. So red it’s almost black. I love the flamboyance of smoke character. Full bodied yet balanced for drinkability. Hops are jammin’ yet not deranged. Mystically elegant. I feel like I was born to weep. Gimme another. Better yet—I’m gonna brew up my own batch. Feel the poetry, Lucky 7 it is.
