A flavorful “session” beer is always welcome, and this fits in that category. Sweet layers of caramel and light toffee combine with a roasted nuttiness, doughy malt, nougat, dates and a hint of fruit. Slight roasted bitterness on the finish. A nice quaffer, but also should go nicely with a range of food.

Let’s see now, brown hue? Check. Malty, nutty and lightly chocolaty nose? Check. Body? Well, it’s got that, but a fairly soft one, I’d say, with a lightly sweet and plummy start leading into a vaguely nutty body with cocoa and raisin notes, which all culminates in an earthy hop finish that has a slight, roasty harshness to it. Definitely a mannered brown, at home, perhaps, beside a loaf of good bread and a country pâté.
