  • Roger Protz

A British wine writer was laughed to scorn when he described a wine on TV as “absolute mangoes.” She’d be on safer ground with this mighty ale that, as the label correctly says, has mango, peach and citrus hops on the aroma along with spicy hops. Tart and bitter hops dominate the palate with rich malt and ripe citrus fruit. The finish is long and hoppy with sweet malt balanced by mango and a whole confectioner’s store of fruits. Empire-building stuff.

  • Garrett Oliver

Pale orange and hazy as weissbier, this beer raises a thick off-white head. The aroma is pure Juicy-Fruit hop bomb. The hops launch a brash attack, but sweet malts hold them at bay through a fat, juicy center. The hops burst ahead into the off-dry finish and linger as the malt drifts off. So-called “imperial IPAs” often seem to be the refuge of brewers with more hops than talent. Well, not here. Wonderfully balanced and beautifully realized, this beer is just fine on its own.
