Wynkoop Brewing Co.'s Rocky Mountain Oyster Stout is brewed with 25 pounds of freshly sliced and roasted bull testicles.

Earlier today, All About Beer hosted a beer tasting with Wynkoop Brewing Co. via Google+ Hangout.

Marty Jones (cheersleader/idea man) and Andy Brown (head brewer) led us through a tasting of the Denver-based brewery’s beers, including Belgorado, B3K Black Lager, Rail Yard Ale, and Silverback Pale Ale. We also sampled their Rocky Mountain Oyster Stout, a beer made with Colorado base malts, roasted barley, seven specialty malts, Styrian Goldings hops, and 25 pounds of freshly sliced and roasted bull testicles.

Founders Releasing All Day IPA in Cans

GRAND RAPIDS, MI—Founders Brewing Co. announced today that its plans to release its beer in cans for the first time in the company’s 15-year history. The brewery will put its warm-weather seasonal, All Day IPA, in 12-ounce cans that will be available in 12-packs across its distribution footprint this summer.

The Shtick Gets Its Own Home

Jeremy Cowan, the owner of Shmaltz Brewing Company, is not known for being low key. At presentations and events he’s the loudest voice in the room, with a friendly Step Right Up carnival bark, pushing his line of HE’BREW and Coney Island Craft Lagers.

For a while now, Cowan has been talking about his desire and plans to open a brewery of his own, dropping hints about a 7-barrel brewhouse he’d like to operate in Brooklyn.

So it came as somewhat of a surprise when he announced early this morning that he has been quietly constructing a 50-barrel brewhouse in Clifton Park, New York, about 10 miles north of Albany. Since 2003 Shmaltz has been brewed at Olde Saratoga, a contract facility in nearby Saratoga, NY, but Cowan said that last year as the company grew, he saw a window of opportunity to transition into a new business model that would allow him to bring production into his own house.

The 20,000 square-foot facility will open by April, says Cowan, with the inaugural brew day to occur shortly after. Packaging will begin by late May or early June.

Study: Beer Industry Contributes $246 Billion to U.S. Economy

WASHINGTON, DC—A new economic impact study released today shows America’s beer industry—made up of brewers, beer importers, beer distributors, brewer suppliers and retailers—directly and indirectly contributes $246.6 billion annually to the U.S. economy. The American beer industry includes 2,851 brewing establishments, 3,728 distributors and 576,353 retailers.
