Chickspeare is an all-female Shakespeare company that started performing shows in the now defunct Johnson Brewery on Central Avenue in 1998 and continued to produce shows there until the brewery sold its space in 2002. Chickspeare produced shows in different Charlotte spaces until 2006 when the company went on hiatus. “Some of my most fond theater memories are from those early years at Johnson Beer,” said Sheila Snow Proctor, Chickspeare Founder & Producer. “The opportunity of recreating that experience for a new audience with NoDa Brewing was irresistible.”
NoDa Brewing is a production brewery in Charlotte’s NoDa neighborhood that crafts small batch premium beer and has been successfully operating since late October 2011. The owner and President of NoDa Brewing, Suzie Ford, recognized a partnership opportunity when she met Sheila Snow Proctor at the brewery and eventually heard about Chickspeare. “Our patrons support unique, creative events at the brewery, so this was right up our alley,” Suzie said.
Chickspeare plans to include members of the previous company as well as some new faces in the cast for ChicksBeer. For additional information, please check our website at www.Chickspeare.com.
