(San Diego, CA) – Green Flash Brewing Co. is proud to announce the upcoming launch of Brewing It Forward, an ongoing local charitable giving program that will benefit San Diego-based, grassroots charities. The platform will be supported by sales proceeds from the brewery’s new San Diego beer series which includes 30th Street Pale Ale,Park West Porter, and East Village Pilsner.
On Tuesday, June 26th from 3pm – 9pm, the brewery will host an event at the brewery to kick off the initiative as well as to celebrate the first-time 12oz bottle-debut of these three locals-only brews which will be sold by the case exclusively from the Mira Mesa Tasting Room. Brewing It Forward will be an ongoing program, and Green Flash will donate a portion of proceeds from all case sales of the beers from the San Diego series to hyper-local charities in need. The program is in line with the brewery’s dedication to community-minded, philanthropic endeavors and also pays homage to some of San Diego’s up-and-coming communities and craft-beer loving neighborhoods.
“We developed the Brewing it Forward program to offer our community a distinctive range of San Diego neighborhood-inspired beers to directly benefit a diverse group of grassroots local charities, ” explains Mike Hinkley, Co-Founder and President of Green Flash Brewing Co. “In addition to creating a platform from which we can execute ongoing charitable giving to help San Diego-based charities in need, we deliberately decided not to distribute these beers out-of-market as a way to support the idea of drinking local beer.”
Five dollars from each case of the beers in the San Diego series sold will be donated to an ongoing rotation of local San Diego charities. Brewing It Forward’s charity partners will change to meet their predetermined and specific needs, and the charities supported by the program will shift when each programs’ goals have been met. In the coming weeks, Green Flash will establish an online system via the brewery’s website to accept submissions from potential charity partners.
While the beers in the series are familiar favorites on draft with local craft beer enthusiasts, the Green FlashBrewing It Forward series introduces new names that pay homage to three of the city’s craft beer-loving neighborhoods (East Village Pilsner was formerly known as Fizzy Yellow Beer and Park West Porter was originally Traditional Porter). Each of the bottle labels depicts a silhouetted image of the skyline or key landmarks unique to each community. Descriptions of the beers in the Brewing It Forward series are as follows:
East Village Pilsner | What Fizzy Yellow Beer Should Be
“Fizzy Yellow Beer” should be full of life and flavor unlike the domestic, mass-produced, insipid, fizzy yellow swill that takes up cooler space and tap handles at markets, pubs and restaurants. San Diego’s East Village is full of life and Green Flash is adding flavor to this burgeoning neighborhood with East Village Pilsner™. Made from premium European pilsner malt and Noble hops, traditional pilsner lager yeast ferments the beer and imparts a clean flavor and unique character. Our East Village Pilsner has a bit more hop flavor than even the best European examples, making it truly a Green Flash Original. 5.3%, 35 IBUS
Park West Porter | The Richest Porter on the Hill
Porters are historically the working-man’s drink and Park West Porter™ is made to suit even the most discerning palate. Rich flavors from Pale, Munich, Biscuit, Chocolate, Crystal and Roast malts appeal to even the most sophisticated denizens on Banker’s Hill in San Diego. A delightful roast malt flavor takes center stage with a Golding hop addition to balance the porter. Tradition dictates a moderate alcohol level and Park West Porter delivers without compromising any flavor or body 5.8% ABV, 35 IBUs
30th Street Pale Ale | An IPA on Any Other Street
Originally released for the Green Flash 6th Anniversary Celebration and brewed to recognize the synergy behind the craft beer culture on 30th Street in San Diego. This American Pale Ale is very well bittered and dry-hopped, making it taste like an IPA by many hop head’s and other brewer’s standards. Our 30th Street Pale Ale™ has become a staple in all our favorite local neighborhood pubs and restaurants on a stretch of 30th Street from Golden Hill through South Park and North Park to Normal Heights. 6% ABV, 45 IBUs
Brewing It Forward will celebrate its debut on Tuesday, June 26th in the Tasting Room from 3pm – 9pm. In addition to introducing the first charity partner who will benefit from the program, Green Flash will be showing off their brand new bottles and serving the brews on draft. To encourage attendance from beer lovers in some of the neighborhoods that helped inspire the series, Green Flash will be running a complimentary shuttle to and from the Mira Mesa Tasting Room from South Park, North Park and Normal Heights. The bus will stop at Hamilton’s Tavern, Toronado, and Blind Lady Ale House and the schedule for pick up and drop off is available now on the Green Flash website: www.greenflashbrew.com
