(Brunehaut, BELGIUM) – Leap Day 2012 marked a major addition to Brunehaut Brewery‘s brewing operations. Following months of preparation, the Belgian brewery took delivery of three new Italian fermentation vats. Each 120 hectoliter capacity tank weighs two metric tons.
The all-day delivery was a spectacular maneuver for the tiny South Belgian village of Rongy. Spectactors gathered when, as is often the case, the fermation vats had to be deployed via crane, through a hole in the brewery’s roof.
This installation doubles Brunehaut’s annual production capacity to 9000 hectoliters. These new tanks continue ongoing expansion strategies which began in January 2012 with the purchase of a new bottle cleaning machine, for domestic recycling.
Brunehaut labels include Abbaye Saint-Martin and Abbaye de St. Amand, plus bio and gluten-free Brunehaut ales. Exports now account for 70% of the Tournai brewery’s output with global distribution across 24 countries. North America represents Brunehaut’s largest export market.
