John Smith’s Extra Smooth Ale to Hit U.S. This Month

Posted April 23, 2012 by Win Bassett

(Stamford, CT) – John Smith’s Extra Smooth Ale, owned by Heineken, is a nitrogenated ale that has a distinct cereal character, with malty, caramel notes complemented by some fruitiness. It comes in a nitrogenated “pub draught” can which contains a widget making the dispensed beer smoother and headier. This English style ale has a gravity of 1.006 and International Bittering Units (IBUs) between 21-25, a lot less than other ales, making it less bitter and easier to drink.

John Smith’s Extra Smooth Ale is made with a variety of hops including: Target, Admiral, Magnum, Taurus and Tomahawk. It consists of a small amount of roasted malt and small amount of UK wheat, 100% grown and malted in the UK.

“John Smith’s Extra Smooth Ale is a beer that appeals to both existing ale drinkers, and to younger generations interested in trying new styles of beer. We are proud to add this world renowned beer to our portfolio,” says Justin Fisch, Director of Marketing for United States Beverage. Pedro Cruz, Export Manager HEINEKEN, is excited over the partnership with United States Beverage: “We look forward to a successful launch of John Smith’s in the U.S.”

John Smith’s Extra Smooth Ale is set to hit select markets this month. It will be available in 14.9oz 4-packs. The brewery was founded in 1758 and John Smith’s Extra Smooth Ale was introduced in 1993. It is brewed in Tadcaster, North Yorkshire England. United States Beverage is the exclusive importer of John Smith’s Extra Smooth Ale in the U.S.
