Highland Brewing’s (NC) Tasgall Ale (8.0%) is a Scotch ale brewed with pale, X special, chocolate, Golden Promise and Munich malts, roasted barley and hopped with Sterling Silver hops.
It was the brewery’s first high-gravity brew following the passage of legislation promoted by the grassroots Pop-the-Cap organization to increase North Carolina’s malt beverage alcohol limit from 6.0% to 14%. Big Butte Smoked Porter (7.0%) is a robust smoked porter from an award-winning local homebrewer, which took the Best of Show award in the 2009 Highland Cup. It’s brewed with pale, crystal, chocolate, black and German Weyerman rauch (smoked) malts and hopped with Fuggles hops. Both available in 22-oz bottles and on draft.
