Beer of the Week

Alchemy Hour Double IPA

Surfs Up (and so is the Mosaic & Nugget pine)!

Alchemy Hour Double IPA, the latest release from Great Lakes Brewing Company, presents a bright golden hue—brighter than most double IPAs. The color throws out a SRM color barely above 6, much lighter than usual for a beer this big. At 9.4% ABV, this beer certainly brings a lot of punch, but it is very mild and has a mouthfeel appropriate for the style. Toffee and caramel flavors are prevalent, but pleasantly offset by the pineapple and citrus notes of these interrelated hops.

Great Lakes Brewing Company qualifies the name with a surfer’s pursuit of liquid gold. The color nailed it, and in the aura of a morning glow, these intense bittering hops reflect a style found near the North Coast’s inspiration.

I had the opportunity to sample this newest addition with owner Pat Conway a few weeks prior to release. Alchemy Hour Double IPA is a surprisingly smooth drink with the necessary hints of pineapple and citrus to make this such a unique taste. In my opinion, this beer could move from seasonal to yearly production and become more of a fan favorite than GLBC’s Dortmunder Gold and Eliot Ness. This is a must try for any beer drinker.

I just had an Alchemy Hour Double IPA first time!
Excellent beer GL does a fantastic job with all their beers. The only drawback is the price, I think I will stick with Conway’s Irish Ale
