Beer of the Week

Founders Brewing Co. Kentucky Breakfast Stout

Posted April 19, 2010 by Greg Barbera

Founders Brewing Company releases this spring seasonal each year around the Ides of March. The Kentucky Breakfast Stout is oak-aged in bourbon barrels for an entire year. The beer pours black like espresso with a very little tan head (if any). Strong roasted notes come off the top. The mouthfeel is viscous and made up of bitter toffee, hints of vanilla bean with a sturdy bourbon backbone. The KBS is one of my favorite beers. I have yet to have an imperial stout that is so full of flavor and so delicately balanced. This truly is liquid, black gold.
