Belgian Style Blonde Ale

All About Beer Magazine - Volume 31, Issue 4
September 1, 2010
aab

91 Belgian Blonde Abbey Ale, Abbaye de Leffe (Belgium). 6.6% ABV (5/08)
Brilliant bright golden amber color with a blanketing white head. Dense aromas of orange marmalade, peanut brittle, mossy earth and pastry dough follow through on a rich, frothy entry to a dry-yet-fruity full body with layers of spice, river stones and sourdough. Finishes with a long, tangy nut, sweet orange gum and peach marmalade fade. Rich and flavorful with great drinkability.

89 Hoppenbier, Jopen (Holland). 6.8% ABV (5/08)
Hazy old color with a persistent fine foamy head. Vibrant sour yeast, basement, sour cream, sour cherry, bitter orange and sweaty cheese rind aromas follow through on a mellow entry to a dry medium with interesting notes of tropical fruit cocktail. Finishes with a tart and tangy citrus peel, cheese, clay-like hop and white nut fade. An intriguing food beer with a racy style.

88 Pin Up Blonde, Bastone Brewery (MI). 6.75% ABV (5/10) %{Brewpub}
Deep murky amber color. Aromas of apricot butter on sourdough toast and praline follow through on a supple entry to a dry-yet-fruity medium-to-full body with very good smoothness and vibrancy. Finishes with long, zesty citrus, grassy hop and delicate root vegetable accents.

85 Five Apostles, Devils Backbone Brewing Co. (VA). 6.1% ABV (5/10)
Pale golden amber color. Aromas of tomato omelet, spicy carrot cake and baklava follow through on a round entry to a dry-yet-fruity medium body with good depth and a tangy, slightly short and spicy, honeyed citrus, talc and root vegetable finish.
