Pair 10 Popular Ice Cream Flavors with a Variety of Cold Brews

When most of us reach for a cold one, we’re talking about beer. This Father’s Day, however, Baskin-Robbins is honoring dad in a frosty and flavorful way through The Cold One Cake, an ice cream cake shaped like a mug.

All About Beer Magazine collaborated with the Baskin-Robbins Culinary Team to identify 10 popular ice cream flavors to pair with a range of cold brews, from blueberry ales to barleywines.

“At first glance, you may not think of pairing beer and ice cream together, but once people have a chance to taste these combinations, they will see how well the different flavors complement one another,” said John Holl, editor of All About Beer Magazine. “Beer has diverse flavors thanks to its main ingredients – water, malt, hops, and yeast. Then, when brewers add culinary ingredients like coffee, fresh fruit, spices and more, the pairing options with ice cream become truly endless. Working with a variety of flavors, we looked to match complementary flavors and intensity, and coax out some nuances from both the beer and the ice cream.”

Learn more about these pairings in this press release and in the infographic below (click for the enlarged version).

How about adding the beer TO the ice cream for a beery ice cream dessert?

At my local Alpine Beer Pub that is exactly what I did. They had a chocolate stout on nitro and with a scoop of ice cream vanilla mixed in better than any milkshake I ever had!

I do it all the time – beer floats.

Frnch vanilla ice cream, belgian framboiseor kriek, whipped cream topping sprinkled with shaved milk chocolate.

Or – chocolate ice cream with Guiness or other stoutor porter. Scoop the ice cream in a glass and add the beer. Simple and great.

My friends always gag first on the thought of a beer float, then can’t get enough of it.
