You Can Take it With You

All About Beer Magazine - Volume 28, Issue 6
January 1, 2008 By Rick Lyke

You have the perfect home bar, but now its time to head to the big game, the family reunion or neighborhood picnic. Short of loading everything on the back of a flatbed truck, you need to come up with a solution that works.

A cooler is a good place to start, but let’s face it: anyone can load a 12 pack of beer in a cooler with some ice. It may answer the basic need, but it is far from the elegant statement you wish to make.

There are options for various situations. Your guide should be to remember that when you travel it is always easier when you plan ahead for what you will need and pack on the light side. In terms of your portable bar, this means focusing on a limited selection and then making a statement your friends will appreciate.

For instance, Comforthouse.com offers a beautiful English leather travel bar with carrying strap that contains three 8-ounce flasks, each with one-ounce chrome caps. At $189.95 this unit is an elegant way to bring along three small batch or single malt whiskeys to a tailgate party.

The Comfort Channel markets a mini portable wet bar with bar tools, a cocktail shaker and two martini glasses in a leatherette case with room for two liquor bottles for $99.99. They also offer a backpack-style carrier with the tools, plus an insulated compartment that can hold two bottles of chilled wine and a hunk of cheese for $69.99.

If you do feel the need to haul some beer on ice (and we all do from time to time), you can show some team spirit with a team logo rolling cooler from Campus Images for $49.95.
