All About Beer Magazine - Volume 29, Issue 5
November 1, 2008 By Lew Bryson

Although these beer programs combine brews of different styles and national backgrounds, and mingle lagers with ales, in each list, the dominant character in the beer grows more pronounced as the evening goes on.

Crisp Vector

Budweiser (to limber up)

Gaffel Kölsch (a little fruit—it’s an ale)

Augustiner Helles (underlying maltiness)

Penn Dark (something beefier, but still crisp)

Czechvar (can you say “Saaz?)

Hops Vector

Sierra Nevada Pale Ale (an study in balance)

Jever (pilsner with punch)

Bell’s Two Hearted Ale (is that all you got?!)

Founder’s Devil Dancer DIPA (Tongue. In. Pain)

Russian River Pliny the Elder (a mighty DIPA)

Hmmm Sweet Vector

Sprecher Black Bavarian (light chocolate and coffee)

Newcastle Brown (more malt sweetness)

Left Hand Milk Stout (like a milkshake)

Fuller’s Vintage Ale (you might want to stop here)

EKU 28 (I’ll take ‘malt’ for $1,000)

Vector of Darkness

Guinness (the session stout)

Meantime Porter (add roasted barley intensity)

Dragon Stout (sweet and strong from Jamaica)

Avery Czar Imperial Stout (brewed big, shipped to Russia)

Okocim Porter (changed to lager by local brewers)

Wheat Vector

Victory Whirlwind Wit (smoothly spicy)

Franziskaner Dunkel (can I add a banana to this?)

Schneider Edel-Weisse (banana, clove, bubblegum

Ramstein Winter Wheat (turn it up!)

Marin Tripel Wheat Ale (Harder! Faster!)

Vector of Expanding Funkiness

Lindemans Framboise (this could be dessert)

Hanssen’s Kriek (reboot tastebuds)

Cantillon Gueuze (more horsiness)

Allagash Interlude (less pucker)

Lost Abbey Funky Barrel (let it rip)
