Great Places to Eat Meat

All About Beer Magazine - Volume 28, Issue 6
January 1, 2008 By Kerry J. Byrne

Viktualienmarkt, Munich; www.viktualienmarkt-muenchen.de—I cried when I first saw Munich’s “victuals market,” for there were no more meat worlds left to conquer. The outdoor market is filled by butcher shops, food stalls, beer gardens and plenty of Bavarian specialties.

Zeughauskeller, 28a Bahnhofstrasse, Zurich; www.zeughauskeller.ch—One of Europe’s great restaurants and sausage-specialists is found in the atmospheric setting of a medieval armory (or Zeughaus in German) in the center of stately old Zurich.

Der Peerderstal, 8 Wijngaardstraat, Antwerp; www.depeerdestral.be—A Flemish restaurant specializing in horse steaks housed in a former stable (or peerdestal), from which the restaurant gets its name. Der Peerdestal is steps from Antwerp’s gorgeous Grote Markt and majestic Cathedral of Our Lady.

The all-American steakhouse—From iconic old-time favorites like Peter Luger in Brooklyn, to the ubiquitous chains like Morton’s and Capital Grille, it’s hard to improve upon the buttery, aged beef found in the decadent American steakhouse.

The Pigskin Gala, Quincy, MA—My family’s Thanksgiving morning cookout. We tap the Keg of Beer amid great Pomp and Circumstance at 6 a.m. on the invariably frigid New England November morning, feast on homemade bacon and sausage and then head to the 10 a.m. kickoff of the local high school rivalry game. You’re all invited.
