This is Michigan’s Smoothest Dark Beer, a dark beer even people who don’t think they like dark beer will love. Wolverine Dark will win you over with a smooth maltiness balanced by a crisp feel on your tongue without any of the chunky chewy taste that some dark beers have.

This is a beer packed with rich, chewy flavors. It has a deep amber/black color while roast chestnuts, burnt grain, dark malt, licorice and peppery hops bounce out of the glass. Sweet grain fills the mouth along with peppery hops, burnt fruit and licorice. The finish is bittersweet, with more licorice notes, dark fruit, roasted grain and spicy hops. Remove the water and you’d have a great spread for your breakfast toast.

A beer called “dark lager” is like a box of chocolates… you never know what you’re going to get. This beer is indeed dark, at the deep end of russet-brown, and raises a thin off-white head. The aroma is mildly malty with a whiff of hop and a suggestion of coffee. The bitterness is broad, up front, and slightly astringent on the palate, followed by a dry center showing a dash of roast, but little caramel. The finish is dry. This beer is closer to schwarzbier than to dunkel, and would work nicely on a summer day with a char-grilled steak.
