“The autumn leaves drift by my window...” The deep, burnished red color mirrors the fallen detritus on my lawn. The beer has a creamy head and a rich aroma of roasted grain, burnt fruit, a hint of chocolate and floral hops. The palate is packed with ripe, juicy, sweet and dark malt, chocolate and gentle hops. The finish is surprisingly dry with a muted sweetness, growing hop presence and a lingering, delicious hint of chocolate. A ripe, warming beer, a guardian against the cold to come.
- Roger Protz
The beer pours a beautiful deep mahogany and raises a thick tan head. The nose is full of bready malts and a minty aromatics float in the background. The palate is sweet, soft and round, with moderate hopping stepping in to pull it back into balance. Smooth, flavorful and pleasant, this beer is reminiscent of many traditional Scottish ales. Should a freshly shot grouse elude you, this beer would also taste very nice with duck.
