It just wasn’t enough to use a blend of 5 varieties of hops in our India Pale Ale. We needed more. We needed to go wholehog! So, we added a sixth hop and created a more pronounced hop nose and a massive hop flavor for our American twist to this legendary style.

A sweet, somewhat tropical aroma with “BEER!” shouting right under it. That’s quite sweet, actually, without being overly heavy in the mouth, and a bit sticky in the middle before the hops kick in for the finish; a quick beer, “wham bam” etc.-style. It’s a bit flabby towards the end; even as the hops start their run to the finish, there’s malt crowding the lanes. Still, it’s nicely smooth, and the bitter finish lingers on and on.

I like this: No “Imperial” or “double,” just a strong IPA hopped to haziness with an inspired selection of varieties. Juicy fruit on the nose—peach marmalade, stewed apricots, yellow plums—and a round, very full body with a spicy mix of fruity malt and not overly aggressive bitterness. The label says “Wisconsin,” but it could as easily be from the English midlands. If you’re smitten with piney, citrusy and potent American IPAs, you should try this to give context to the beers you love.
