A pleasantly musty nose of malt and dark, overripe pit fruits, with a hint of sweet anise lurking in the rear. Wonderfully light body, and an effervescent busy fizziness that is an eye-opener in a beer of this character. The palate floods with nutty, dry malt that spreads swiftly to every corner. A cunningly rich finish is sweet but not cloying, and finally dries to a twist of hops at the very end. Actually quite nice on this hot afternoon. Color me shocked!

An old favorite, wine-like beyond its deep burgundy color and dark fruit aroma suffused with notes of prune and black currant, plum and cinnamon. The body is even more decadent than the nose, offering first raisins and currants, then spicy, almost oaky richness and finally dry and mildly bitter hoppiness. A high strength ale that arrives as a soft caress rather than a punch to the jaw, best reserved for long after the sun has set.
