Copper brown. Malty on the nose, with suggestions of Darjeeling tea. Cream toffee or fudge in the palate. Indian kulfi ice-cream (pistachio flavor). Finish: rum, almonds, dark fruits, sweet mincemeat, bitter orange peels.

Not necessarily a beer — 6% abv, nutty, rich and long on caramel — that you’d pick for a session at 9,000 feet (after an invigorating day of skiing or hiking at even higher levels in and around the Continental Divide town where this ale is brewed). Nonetheless a solid restorative, balancing dark fruits, toasty malts and underlying sweetness with woody and earthy hops flavors.
