Charles Stegmaier began brewing in his native city of Wurtemburg. After moving to the United States in 1857, he established the Stegmaier Brewery. The brand was purchased by Lion, Inc. in 1974.

It’s good to see The Lion Brewery making characterful beers. In the Märzen style, this amber is predominantly malty and very quaffable, with accentuating notes of caramel, toasted malt, and gently dry hop notes on the finish. Buy a big soft pretzel. Squirt mustard on it. Peal a radish. Sprinkle salt on it. Open two of these beers. Pour them it in your biggest mug. Find a place outside on a sunny autumn afternoon with a southern exposure, and enjoy.

An American beer that makes the Reinheitsgebot proud. Beautiful Märzen color, like a copper pfennig, crowned with a handsome schaum. Subtle, clean, not too sweet, malty nose. Perhaps more bitter than its Bavarian cousins, it is nice and bread-like, just right for festive foods like salted radishes, buttered pretzels, roast chicken, smoky ribs, or craft-made knockwurst and bratwurst, with homemade sauerkraut and grainy mustard; finished with apple strudel or even pumpkin pie.
