In this age of double and even triple IPAs, one is always on the look-out for a fine example of a simple, single India pale ale, and Snake Dog certainly fits that bill. The nose of this deep-copper-colored brew is much more than your standard American hop citrus; there’s a cakey, perfumey, almost vanilla-ish character here, too, and some herbals. The body shows plentiful fruit up front, with apricots and yellow plum in evidence, and more spicy, herbaceous, bitter notes in the back end. Refreshing with complexity, I’d take this on its own or with a Thai curry.

An aromatic blast from the now! You are there and one with this IPA, with its full complex and fun hop aroma that prances and dances with your senses. Snake Dog is proof that God wanted us to have fun! Great malt balance without being excessively full-bodied. My kind of IPA. Conjures deep and retrospective thought. Wonderful companion. Smooth aftertaste and thoughts. Welcome, my friend.

This beer has a deep gold color leaning towards amber. The aroma is a resiny juicy-fruit riot of tropical fruit and recent American hop varieties—rather reminiscent of the plant’s closest cousin. The palate starts off soft, round, fruity and almost silky, then gets a grip as the hops step into a dry, flinty finish that lingers. A distinctive interpretation that hop-heads will enjoy, a tutorial on American hop flavors. The perfect accompaniment to a full-rigged Vietnamese dinner.
