Bronze-colored beer with a barley white collar of foam and a big aroma of spicy, herbal hops, cracker wheat maltiness and fresh tobacco. Bitter hop resins and tart orange fruit dominate the mouth, underpinned by sappy malt. The long finish has massive hop bitterness complemented by tangy citrus fruit and juicy malt. An excellent interpretation of a 19th century IPA–pity there's no information on the label about malts, hops and strength.

The honey-amber beer pours into the glass, raising a thin tan head. Another beer named after a large rock–perhaps it's a new trend? The hop aroma fairly leaps from the glass, all pine and mint with a burst of fruit. For just a moment, it smells like a julep. The bitterness is fine and steely, with a juicy core of malt to hold the whole affair together. The finish is dry, long and crackling. If you like well-crafted IPA, perhaps this is a leap you should take, along with a good lamb vindaloo.
