Straw color. Soft, delicately sweet, grainy aroma with honeyed malt and a hint of vanilla. Light-bodied and slightly grainy, with more of the same honeyed malt, leading to a clean, gently dry finish. Not overly inspiring, but it is thirst-quenching. A beer to drink when you want to focus on something other than your beer.

The first words out of my mouth on tasting this beer were: “Wow, that’s sweet!” And it is, too. Not in the malty dubbel or rich doppelbock kind of way, but for a pale golden lager with a German pedigree, pretty damn sweet. The nose is sweet and sugary and the body starts and stays corn-on-the-cob-accented and sweet; only the finish brings in a refreshing note of mild hop. Make no mistake, the Berghoff name is the most German thing about this beer.
