The name of the beer, Omer, is also the family name of the last four generations of the brewery’s owners, who have kept it this way so as to make best use of permanent stained-glass window signs in bars. If the name stays the same, the sign is still useful!

A bland beer from Belgium―surely not? But despite its 8 percent alcohol rating, this pale gold ale offers only a light fruity hop and toasted grain aroma, with bitter hops building in the mouth, balancing sweet grain and a hint of citrus fruit. The finish is bittersweet to start but becomes finally dry with toasted grain and gently fruity hops. It’s a pleasant refresher, but one-dimensional. Could someone find me a Duvel?

What a striking blonde. I’m digging the brilliant golden shimmer and pearly white cap. The head lasts a few minutes, leaving behind its lacy web. The aroma is dominated by floral and herbal noble hop complexity, with some yeasty pepper and clove and faint citrus fruit peeking from the background. The carbonation gives a fluffy sensation in the mouth. The flavor has a grainy and dry cracker bread character, some feathery sweet tangerine and those noble hops again. It finishes boldly with a bracing hop bitterness. Overall, this is quite a flavorful, playful and refined golden ale with some smooth Continental lager-like qualities.
