Rich and enticing. In color it is a beautiful ebony, with a welcoming blond head. An aromatic gem, with such an enticing nose that one must choose between luxuriating in that or rushing forward to imbibe. On the palate, it is well-balanced with an exuberant demand for more. Take care: this is NOT a light beer.

There’s very little carbonation as it pours, a slightly hazy dark reddish-brown wit ha thin collar of foam. The nose is softly malty with some musty tropical fruit. Hard bitterness slides up the sides of the tongue while caramel plays through the chewy dry center. The finish is short and a little astringent, with a warming glow of alcohol. A little more heft in the center would be nice, but this beer sacrifices weight for drinkability. Try it with a big wedge of Stilton.

Sounds like an old ale but billed simply as a strong one. Ruby to black in color. In the aroma, maltiness like sweet tea but a little stewed. Drier palate with marijuana-like hop character, passion fruit esters, and flavors reminiscent of soy sauce (autolyzed yeast?). Needs rounding.
