Deep, dark chocolate head with a crown of mocha is elegant in the glass, as well as on the table. Though sweet roasted malts predominate on the nose, the full-bodied flavor is dry and satisfying, with a rich, round mouthfeel and fine finish. A little too alcoholic for subtle foods like oysters on the half shell, it is exceptional with rich dishes. We served it to rave review with roasted quail with goat cheese gnocchi, crispy shallots & pancetta.

If an Imperial Porter (Flying Dog’s Gonzo) can win best American-style Imperial Stout in the World Beer Cup, then it almost makes sense that Twisted Pine would invent an imperial porter that’s a counterpoint, something that conjures up visions of a previously unknown “imperial milk porter.” Like a milk stout, rich and creamy on the palate, brimming with sweet chocolate, caramel and alcohol that trumps subtler burnt, bitter notes.
