Straw gold color. Feint aromas of honeyed malt, creamed corn and hops. Similar follow through on the palate, but thin in texture and fleeting. Soft, clean and refreshing, but uninspiring. This beer has a lot of history. It may have been the beer my grandfather drank, but he also chewed tobacco and constantly spit into a bucket while he watched TV with the colors so screwed up that everyone’s faces were always green.

I’ve never been a fan of nostalgia-based beer brands: I don’t drink PBR; can’t quite fathom the affection some Pacific Northwesters have for Olympia, and maintain no particular fondness for Molson Export, the ale of my youth. And so it is with this beer, an unremarkable lager steeped in New England sepia with a pale to medium gold color, almost negligible, grainy aroma and muted, lemony taste. At least it’s drier than most of its ilk, even if it does finish with a light lick of sweetness.
